The Nairobi safari club is an all suite hotel managed by Pullman international with the promise of comfort and privacy for every guest. The hotel is a striking white circular tower rippling with vertical rows of bay windows and balconies. It is located on university Way across from the Nairobi University. The entry is elegant with broad white marble steps and faade, a dramatic cascade of tropical plants and a handsome brass plaque announcing The Nairobi Safari Club.

A doorman in caped livery greets you with pomp and smiles. The circular reception area is somewhat dark with wood paneling. You are almost overwhelmed by the thick carpets, chandeliers, brass friezes of African bush themes, leather armchairs and striking arrangements of tropical flowers. A circular fountain with sheets of falling water is a dramatic focal point.

The hotel is run as a social club, with hotel guests having temporary memberships. In the center of the hotel, the Kirinyaga lounge gives residents a private club lounge and reading room furnished with more leather armchairs and cut glass mirrors, lamps and barware. Down the hall, the Kirinyaga Restaurant serves a la carte menu in a room heavy with mirrors, linen, crystal and silver. Both rooms are some-what dark and stuffy with no windows, but certainly recall the more formal traditions of London Clubs.

In contrast, the brasseries and safari Bar bring in the light with floor to ceiling windows. The brasserie is open for snacks and meals, and the safari bar serves snacks and drinks on two airy overhung with ferns.

There are 146 suites in the hotel including four luxurious penthouse suites with plenty of space for entertaining and very beautifully furnished. Other suite sizes vary and some are very small. Furnishings in all but the penthouse suites are somewhat tired. However, suites have comfortable and separate sitting areas which could be desirable for those of you that wish to have a longer stay.
