Dorado Cottages-Malindi Kenya Coast

Pretty thatched whitewash cottages are closely spaced in Bougainvillea gardens around two pools. There are currently 22 cottages and more are planed. Each cottage has a living room, bedrooms and kitchen with refrigerator but no stove. Two extra beds can be added. There are fans. Full service dining is in an older house overlooking the beach. The beach access is down a hill from the site. The cottages do not see the ocean. It is under Italian management and caters to tour groups.

Palm Tree Club

This large Italian resort is right next to the Malindi golf course about 600 meters from the ocean. There is a shuttle for continuous transportation to and from the beach.

The circular construction of the main building surrounds a large swimming pool. Double rooms overlook the pool or are at located in separate cottages on the extensive grounds. Tall thatched roofs ensure coolness, and there is an interesting combination of Lamu-Style furniture, Zebra Skin rugs, and African wood carvings of tribal fetish statues and bouquets of tropical flowers. Each room has a full bathroom.

In addition to a restaurant with a la carte menu, there are sports facilities for tennis, golf and bowling. Riding stables on the grounds provide horses for the resort. Riding school or for free riding in the forests or on the beaches. Italian films are shown regularly.

Scorpio Villas

This is a maze of large cottages set close together. Te ocean is nowhere in sight but can be reached by hiking along a small foot path. The cottages are furnished in Lamu-style and have equipped kitchen with fridges. There is a restaurant and three swimming pools.

Stephanie Sea house

A primarily Italian resort, Stephanie sea house has 8 beds. A pool and raised restaurant overlook the beach and ocean. Cottage rooms are set far from the sea and close together. There is high thatch and Lamu-style furniture.

The Tropical Village

The tropical village is another Swahili-style hotel on the beach which caters to European tour groups. There are tropical gardens, whitewash and thatch, Lamu furniture and a free-form swimming pool. The village accommodates approximately 60 in several double story buildings.

A focal point is the large open-sided restaurant serving sea food and Italian specialties. There are many sporting activities and nightly entertainment.

Che-Shale

At Che sale, the accommodation are a step above camping, the food is superb and the location a remote and sandy beach. It is a romantic and rustic accommodation. Built on a deserted beach, 20 kilometers north of Malindi, Che-Sale is reached by 4- wheel drive or you can ride there from the Kibokoni Riding center.

Accommodation in ten small makuti-mat shacks are spread among the sand dunes. The location is bright and hot with little natural shade or ground cover. The sand underfoot can burn, and eyes crinkle in the glare.

The cool makuti restaurant serves world class seafood with gourmet Italian taste. On the menu are deep fried seaweed, fresh cracked mangrove crab and char-grilled sea fish. The bar is interesting and comfortable with Lamu beds, brass accents, and huge floor cushion covered in Kanga cloth.

It is pleasant to swim in front of Che-Sale-the beach is sandy and deserted, and at certain tides sandbars stretch out into sea. There are plenty of opportunities for long walks and bird-watching, and fishing and sailing can be arranged. Te wide beach curves to a rocky point where you can snorkel. At low tide it is possible to take a 4-wheel drive vehicle along the sand to discover and explore even more remote bays.

Accommodations at the Kenyan Luxury Beach tented camp

Each makuti shack has a double bed and basic bathroom with chemical toilet and safari pull shower. There is an electric generator which provides light for the tents until midnight. A shaded veranda in front of each shack has a daybed-private and peaceful-Shack choices: #9 &10 for sea views, #5 for bird watching, #1 for honeymooners, and #3,5,9 for triple occupancy.
