If golden aspens are more important than powder slopes then ski countrys brief fall may be a very good travel option. Much of the month of September and October offers upscale accommodations at bargain prices compared to ski season in Aspen, Colorado.

Weekday prices are as much as one half to one fourth the peak season weekend rates. Additionally, in the middle of September the area hosts the Fall in Love with Aspen & Snowmass, Colorado series of events so boredom isnt an issue!

The Maroon Bells Festival of Colors caters to the Arts community while the Balloon Festival, Half Marathon, Wine and Jazz Festivals all attract their own enthusiasts. Its a ten day long series of wall to wall activities which celebrate the natural beauty of the area. This is a great place to go to for the fall atmosphere.

Bus service to the Maroon Bells continues on weekends from September 6 through October 1. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Maroon Lakes 14,000 foot elevation are an easy access sight for a charge of $6 per adult or $4 for children.

There are 41 State Parks in the Colorado system. Among these are over 4000 campsites which are the very affordable accommodations in an otherwise pricey region.
Golden Gate State Park, 30 miles west of Denver, is just one of these and one of the most visually appealing. Acres of aspens lend the beautiful views that leaf peepers crave while recreational opportunities abound.

There are two yurts available at Golden Gate for $60 each per night year around. They have access to running water and flush toilets and cooking is permitted inside. They sleep six people and may be one of the best values in the state. Getting reservations for the yurts may be difficult but year around camping is plentiful at about $20 per night.
