The eternal fight against Jet Lag is not anything new. You can find thousands of methods to combat it, from some kind of engineer-mind techniques to some spiritual abstract philosophies.

Let’s be sincere. Books promise a lot. All of them tell you that their system will work and that you will not suffer ever again for the effects of Jet Lag. Well, that’s OK from a sellers perspective but the effects are probably impossible to avoid at all. The body clock gets completely confused and when you arrive at your destination the symptoms of tiredness and sleepiness typical will appear.

In any case, there are some general important and proven techniques that you should follow in order to reduce this level of body stress. First of all, what to do before and during the flight to minimize the effect, and later, what to do once in your destination to make it disappear as soon as possible.

What you need to understand from the very beginning is that Jet Lag is not only a physical symptom but it is also in your mind. To begin in a good way, the best you can do is to set your clock to your destination time as soon as you take off. Nothing will really change, but your head will get used to the new time and this will contribute to the whole minimization of the effects.

Of course, during the week or two weeks before departure, you should follow some rules in order to get to sleep early and rest at least 8 hours every day. A crossing time frames flight is a situations that causes stress to your body, so the most relaxed and strong you arrive to this situation, the better the result will be.

It is also not recommended to drink alcohol before, during or after your trip, so if I were you I would choose plenty of water. Water helps any organism to recover. If you are sick, it is highly encouraged to drink a lot of water in order to recover soon, and this case is not an exception.

As far as it is possible, it is always recommended to take your eastward flight early in the morning. In any case, this is something that can be difficult to find, as many airlines prefer to fly during the night for most of the eastward flights, as time goes by quicker and they instead can use the hours with maximum level of passengers flying westwards, where time will go by slower.

Finally, once you arrive at your destination, there are some rules you can follow during 1 or 2 days in a way that the effects will dramatically disappear in a short period. It basically consists in a schedule about when to look for bright light and when to avoid it, based in the time that you wake up, the number of time frames you cross during your trip, and the direction of flying.

There is also a very useful e-book that deals with the minimization of the effects. As all books in the world, the author says that with his method the effects disappear completely. I probably wouldn’t agree with that, but from personal experience I can say that content is good and results do appear.
